GARY LINEKER and Alan Shearer were stunned that Kylian Mbappe missed France’s draw with the Netherlands despite a broken nose.

The 25-year-old superstar striker suffered a horrific injury late in Les Bleus’ 1-0 victory over Austria.

He collided with Kevin Danso and blew his horn, spraying blood all over his face and all over his pristine white kit before being rushed to hospital.

This resulted in the French team obtaining a tricolor protective mask so that Mbappé could wear it in training – with a simple version to be used in games to comply with UEFA decisions.

However, Mbappe was named among the substitutes for Friday night’s clash with the Dutch – but did not take the field.

But BBC duo Lineker and Shearer, who covered the game from the studio, couldn’t believe the transformation to the Frenchman’s nose – just days after apparently breaking it.

So much so that they seemed surprised he didn’t appear in the draw – and think he may have had some emergency cosmetic work done.

Shearer said: “If there was any doubt, and I suppose there is, there’s no point risking him. If they had to win, he’d probably start.

“He straightened his nose anyway.”

And Lineker replied: “Sounds good, doesn’t it? It’s not that bad.

The result leaves France second in Group D – level on points with the Netherlands on four points, but behind the Dutch on goals scored as Ronald Koeman’s men beat Poland 2-1.

However, it could have been much worse for the 2018 world champions.

Xavi Simons thought he had managed to open the scoring – but after a long delay, the English team of referees and VAR controversially ruled out the possibility of offside.

That’s because Denzel Dumfries was in an offside position to the goalkeeper’s left – although few were convinced he was actually interfering with French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
