Poland became the first nation to leave Euro 2024 after their defeat to Austria in their second group game and, in truth, they were disappointing enough in their first few games to not feel they deserved much more.

Of course they were hampered by Robert Lewandowski’s absence in the first game due to injury, but in truth they offered little threat and went home early without contributing much to the tournament.

Francein the meantime, he will play in the round of 16 – but he didn’t resolve the situation well either, he is quite weak in his play in the penalty area, he wasted some opportunities to score against Austria and the Netherlands and so far he has only scored once, which was own goal.

Kylian Mbappe may return to playing with a mask, but for Didier Deschamps the biggest questions may be who to give a chance to after two unimpressive matches so far.

Here’s everything you need to know before the game.

When is the match?

France face Poland at 5pm BST on Tuesday 25 June at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.

Where can I watch?

This game will be shown on BBC One and can be streamed via iPlayer and the BBC Sport website. You can find a full list of which channels are showing each match here.

What’s new with the team?

France must still be cautious about Kylian Mbappe’s return to action following his broken nose, but it appears he is well enough to play a role if necessary – albeit with a mask on. Otherwise, Didier Deschamps’ biggest doubts are about his own national teams, with France still without scoring a goal and not playing at full capacity. It could pivot to give some a break and others a chance.

Poland could very well shuffle their deck completely, given that they are already out of the tournament and may just try to give their team members some tournament experience. Robert Lewandowski should be fit to start, but it’s too late for it to matter.

Confirmed lineups

France XI: Maignan; Koundé, Upamecano, Saliba, Hernández; Tchouaméni, Kanté, Rabiot; Dembélé, Mbappé, Barcola

Poland XI: Skorupski; Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior; Frankowski, Syzmanski, Zielinski, Moder, Zalewski; Urbanski, Lewandowski

Chances

France 3/10

Draw 5/1

Poland 1/9

Prediction

France’s second run should give a reasonable account of itself and give Deschamps reason to consider some changes in the round of 16. France 2-0 Poland.
