It appears flares were fired at riot police during the Euro 2024 pre-match meeting.

Footage posted on social media showed riot police making an arrest and forcing fans who tried to intervene to retreat.

The floor was littered with broken glass and other debris.

Some of the images appeared to show a clash between Serbian fans and police in a square.

The game ended in a goalless draw and saw Denmark advance to the final stages of the tournament.

England also advanced to the finals of the Euros after winning their group.

Some fans expressed disappointment at England’s dull draw with Slovenia.

“Troubles cropped up ahead of England’s Euro curtain raiser against Serbia”.

Sources at the scene said a group of idiots appeared to have started chaos at a restaurant near the host city of Gelsenkirchen five hours before kick-off.

Police at the scene said they believed the English started the trouble – but English fans blamed the Serbs.

Police later confirmed that six Serbs had been arrested, but there were no English arrests.

The problem centered on the Aleppo Restaurant, on Arminstrasse, where the place was littered with broken glass, bottles and debris minutes after the confrontation.

A source said: “All that is confirmed at the moment is that English fans were definitely involved.”
