3️⃣ things we learned on the sixth day of the Copa América brings the drama

More Copa América action continued on Tuesday with the start of the second round on day six of the tournament.

Here are some of the best talking points from the latest Group A games.

Martinez is Argentina’s new choice

Since his move to Major League Soccer, Lionel Messi’s form hasn’t dropped one bit. But after two games in this great tournament, he still hasn’t transformed into the Messi we know so well.

The door is open for another name to emerge as Argentina’s hero: Lautaro Martínez.

He has now scored two goals off the bench in as many games for the Copa América champions, both coming in the 88th minute.

The Inter striker scored 27 goals last season and, after a poor performance at the World Cup, finally returned to play for the national team. He will also thank VAR for tonight’s victory against Chile.

Moving forward, Lionel Scaloni will need to decide whether to keep him as a primary substitute or give him a starting nod. Could Julian Alvarez lose his spot?

Regardless of where and when he plays, we are sure that Martínez will be happy to return to play for the national team in the most important moments.

Goalkeepers continue to be stars of the show

Despite many stars among these four teams, we are here again to defend the players between the sticks! Several goalkeepers were at the top of their game during Tuesday’s Group A games.

Canadian Maxime Crépeau has double-digit saves to his name after two games and was vital in two big moments against Peru deep into stoppage time. He also rushed to help an assistant referee who collapsed mid-match.

So don’t forget veteran Claudio Bravo. The 41-year-old still leads Chile’s defense and was vital against Argentina. A point-blank save from an Alexis Mac Allister header was followed by a Nicolás González shot that went off the posts.

World Cup winner Emiliano Martínez also received praise for his efforts. He needed to stay alert until the 75th minute for Argentina and made three late saves in 15 minutes to avoid a big surprise for Chile.

If you play yourself, remember to thank your goalkeeper.

This group is far from decided

Argentina secured their place in the qualifiers, but the other place is still up for grabs. A scenario that was not expected when the tournament draw was made.

Canada surprisingly sits in second place after two matches and above third-placed Chile. The meeting between the two is therefore vital, and fireworks can be expected. The Canucks only need one point to qualify for the next round.

Fourth-placed Peru are also still in contention ahead of their clash with Argentina. Should the world champions beat, it would not only be a shock heard around the world, but also a major change in the Group A standings.

Everyone is hanging on for dear life!
