Liam Kelly describes it as “unbelievable to be back at Rangers” after they confirmed the Scottish goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract following his departure from Motherwell.

The 28-year-old, who came through the Rangers academy, returns to Ibrox after spells at Livingston and Queen’s Park Rangers before completing his three-year contract at Fir Park.

Kelly, who was part of the Scotland squad for Euro 2024 in Germany this summer after making his international debut in October’s 4-1 defeat to France, has played 154 times for Motherwell, 43 of them last season.

“When I left, I probably never thought I would come back, but I’m really happy to be here,” he told the Rangers website.

“I know the size of the club, I spent 14 years here, so it’s a great feeling and I’m looking forward to the new challenge.

“You always have faith in your own ability to be able to play at the highest level and this club is at the highest level. I’m joining a group of very talented players and a group of very talented goalkeepers, so I’m excited.”

Kelly faces a tough challenge to win a starting place, with current number one Jack Butland having been Rangers’ player of the season last season.

Manager Philippe Clement added: “We have had some very positive conversations and he is a goalkeeper with experience in Scotland and the Scottish Premiership, which will be valuable to our team.”
