MEMPHIS Depay was asked by Dutch journalists why he wore a headband in a friendly against Canada ahead of Euro 2024.
So in response, he wore more helmets, but this time with a message for those who had trouble with it.
Why does former Man Utd striker Memphis Depay wear a bandana?
Memphis Depay usually wears a headband for the same reason as everyone else – to keep sweat out of his eyes.
But the former Barcelona striker faced questions from the Dutch media when he wore one during the Netherlands’ pre-tournament friendly against Canada on June 6.
So, in response to all the fuss, he wore another headband when the Netherlands defeated Poland 2-1 on June 16 at Euro 2024, but this time with a message for his detractors.
What is written on Memphis Depay’s bandana?
The message on the bandana was short but sweet: ‘WHO CARES’.
Depay made the bandana especially in response to questions he faced about why he wears one.
It appears to have been machine embroidered for the occasion.
What did Depay say about your bandana?
When asked why he chose to wear the helmet, Depay told Dutch media: “It keeps sweat off my head and is therefore functional.
“My girlfriend says she thinks it’s beautiful, which is also important to me.”
According to EssentiallySports, he also defended his pre-Euro 2024 look, saying: “In the previous match I did twenty minutes for the press in the mixed zone. And I had no doubts about it.
“Who cares? Who cares? It looks great on me and helps me sweat. My girlfriend likes this sweatband. Awesome, right?
“It’s a new look and I feel good about it. I’m already thinking about the color I’m going to wear in Germany.”
What did Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman say about the headband?
Reporters also tried to interrogate Dutch coach Ronald Koeman over his headband.
But the manager didn’t accept any of that, claiming to be completely unaware of the helmet.
Koeman said: “I didn’t even see it at the beginning. I only noticed the headband right before the game, when we left. I’ll have to sleep on this for a night.”
