Philippe Clement says Rangers will focus on adding “experience” to their squad during the rest of the summer transfer window.

The Belgian manager has added six players to his squad since finishing runners-up to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and losing the Scottish Cup final to their city rivals.

But only Scotland goalkeeper Liam Kelly, who arrived after rejecting a new contract at Motherwell, is over 22.

“We were focused on everything, but it’s easier to bring in young players early, but during the rest of the transfer window there will also be experience coming onto the pitch and we need a good balance in the squad and staff of both,” Clement told the website of the Rangers.

“It was important to find these young talents and I think we found some really exciting players for the future of this club.”

Midfielder Mohamed Diomande’s loan to Nordsjaelland was made permanent, winger Oscar Cortes returned on loan from Lens, left-back Jefte was bought from Fluminense, while they also signed former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron and defender Clinton Nsiala, from AC Milan.

Old Firm rivals Celtic are yet to add to their double-winning squad.

“We have already done a lot of things compared to other teams, but this was also necessary,” Clement said. “We had five players leave the building at the end of their contract, so we didn’t get any money that way – and we lost five players.”

Rangers have also joined the Belgian’s backroom team, with 54-year-old Dutchman Andries Ulderink, a former Go Ahead Eagles manager, arriving as assistant coach.

“He’s not someone I knew personally, but I heard a lot of good things about him and the clubs he was at – and we had some really good conversations,” Clement added.

“I wanted to increase our coaching staff because we want to focus even more on the individual side of the players to develop them better.

“I can’t be everywhere at once, so it was important to have a very good addition and someone with a lot of experience, who is also loud, so he will do a good job.”
