MANCHESTER CITY want James McAtee to sign a new contract before deciding where he will go next season.
McAtee, 21, is back from a spell at Sheffield United and City are fielding offers.
Girona want the midfielder on loan or bought with a resale clause.
The deal would be under scrutiny because they are part of the City group of clubs.
But the Citizens want him signed beyond the current deal, which expires in 2026.
McAtee impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United despite a miserable relegation to the Championship after Chris Wilder’s side finished bottom of the Premier League table.
The midfielder has scored five goals and four assists in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Blades.
The England Under-21 international has been at City since 2013 when he joined the academy.
McAtee spent nine years in the Citizens’ youth ranks, where he left a lot of promise for the future.
This led to two consecutive loan spells at Sheffield United as he joined the club in 2022.
McAtee has a total of 14 goals and eight assists in 75 appearances across both spells with the Sheffield giants.
And now the young man could face a very different challenge, as he could play in the Champions League for Girona.
Michel’s side surprised the world last season by finishing third in LaLiga, with just four points separating them from second-placed Barcelona.
