The Debrief on Saturday’s tense NWSL action

More National Women’s Soccer League action took place in the United States with three games scheduled.

Here’s what happened.

What happened?

The scenes were tense in every game!

A late penalty saw Bay FC edge Racing Louisville to three points before the North Carolina Courage beat the Washington Spirit 1-0 in another tight victory.

A late start saw the Utah Royals defeat the Portland Thorns as the teams split the points in a 0-0 tie despite an impressive 41 combined shots.

Moment of the night

Ashley Sanchez made headlines on Saturday after returning to haunt his former club and scoring the winning goal against them.

Her shot was too much for goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, and she made a frightening celebration afterwards.

Statistics of the night

It’s safe to say that Bay FC will have a bright future ahead of them if they keep this up! What’s in the water in California?

What this means

Looking at the table, the Washington Spirit are in third with their six-game unbeaten streak ending.

The Portland Thorns are in fifth place and haven’t won in three, while the North Carolina Courage are just below them in sixth.

A little further down, Bay FC is in eighth place, with consecutive victories. Racing Louisville is in ninth place, without winning in four.

The Utah Royals remain at the bottom of the table, but have gained a vital point.

What comes next?

Looking at Sunday’s action, Gotham FC hosts Seattle Reign FC early in the game, before the game concludes with Angel City FC taking on Orlando Pride.
