URUGUAY winger Maximiliano Araujo was taken off the field with a neck brace after suffering a head injury against the USA on Monday.
The 24-year-old started for Marcelo Bielsa’s team in the Copa América group stage match.
But in the 23rd minute he collided with teammate Ronald Araujo and North American defender Tim Ream.
He subsequently fell to the ground, hitting his head on the grass, which caused his neck to shake.
Several Uruguayan players rushed to help and frantically asked the bench for medical assistance.
Araujo was then placed on a stretcher with a neck brace, but gave an encouraging thumbs up to the crowd before leaving the field.
He was replaced by Los Angeles FC star Cristian Olivera.
Uruguay posted a statement on social media after the match, confirming that Araujo did not suffer any serious injuries.
It said: “Maximiliano Araujo is fine, he had to be replaced due to a head injury.
“Corresponding tests will be carried out.”
Uruguay won the group stage clash 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Mathias Olivera.
As a result, Bielsa’s team secured a place in the knockout stages, while the USA were eliminated from the tournament.
