Manchester United have signed former Arsenal defender Dominique Janssen on a three-year contract with the option of a further season.

The 29-year-old Dutch international spent four seasons with the Gunners before joining Wolfsburg in 2019.

Janssen won two league titles with Wolfsburg and announced in May that he would leave the German club when his contract expired this summer.

She started the Champions League finals in 2020 and 2023, when Wolfsburg were defeated by Lyon and Barcelona respectively.

“I’m very pleased to be at such a big club as Manchester United,” said Janssen.

“Signing here is a very proud moment for me and I can’t wait to return to the Premier League and create new moments of victory with this talented Manchester United team.”

United manager Marc Skinner added: “Dominique is a proven winner, both domestically and internationally.

“His winning mentality is an important addition to our team and his outstanding playing experience will improve our entire dressing room.”

United are looking for reinforcements after several injuries to key defenders last season, including Gabby George.

Captain Katie Zelem left the club last week following the expiration of her contract, while striker Lúcia Garcia’s departure was also confirmed.

Goalkeeper Mary Earps also left United and joined Paris St-Germain.

United remain hopeful to sign Brighton striker Elisabeth Terland on free transfer.
