ENGLAND was warned by Swiss boss Murat Yakin: we shook the Germans and the Italians – and now we’re coming for you
The Three Lions face Switzerland in Saturday’s Euro quarter-finals in Dusseldorf – having avoided an embarrassing last-16 defeat to Slovakia with a 95th-minute equalizer and extra-time victory.
Manager Gareth Southgate has been heavily criticized for his side’s poor form, while Yakin’s Swiss side are on cloud nine after their excellent 2-0 victory over the Italians to reach the quarter-finals.
Switzerland also came close to beating hosts Germany to top the group stage, save for Niclas Fullkrug’s stoppage-time equaliser.
And Yakin said: “We played well against Germany and we did well against Italy, another great team, so why can’t we beat England? It’s a good challenge.
“My team is ready to fight against England. We know your strengths and we also know your weaknesses.
“We saw that playing against certain teams in groups is difficult, with a lot of blockage in defense, and we also had problems with that.
“When you look at England’s squad and my team’s squad, England’s value is much higher than our team’s, but we have an opponent who wants to play and that’s good.
“We are in a good situation. We play well and have good results. We have a good spirit in the team.”
However, Yakin understands that England are capable of stepping in at the right time after a poor tournament to date – especially with their star-studded squad.

Yakin continued: “They have great players. Expectations are high and they need this tournament.
“You see someone like Jude Bellingham and you see a guy who has won a Champions League, but we have to focus on all his players because they can make a difference.
Swiss captain Granit Xhaka is expected to start against England despite suffering an adductor injury that required a scan on Monday.
Former Arsenal midfielder Xhaka, 31, required injections to overcome Italy’s victory and trained outside the squad yesterday, but the Swiss say his starting position is “not in danger”.
