The Copa América has reached the quarter-finals and most of the big hitters still remain, with Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay among the teams seeking a path to the knockout stages.
But the United States, which hosts the tournament, was eliminated and things have not been easy for all teams.
Some underdogs also managed to secure a place in the round of 16 and will try to cause more surprises.
With the quarter-finals on the way, BBC Sport tells the stories you should follow from the biggest tournament in the Americas.
Copa América quarter-final games
Friday (02:00 BST): Argentina x Ecuador
Saturday (02h00): Venezuela x Canada
Saturday (11pm): Colombia x Panama
Sunday (02:00): Uruguay x Brazil
Bielsa got Nunez fired
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez played a significant role in helping Uruguay reach the maximum nine points in the group stage and reach the round of 16.
He played in each of their three matches, scoring in the 3-1 win over Panama and the 5-0 win over Bolivia.
Uruguay face tough opponents in Brazil, but are technically strong under former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, notably Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.
Uruguay beat the USA and eliminated them in the group stage. Will they be able to overcome one of the favorites in the next game?
Can Messi shine?
Argentine star Lionel Messi could be playing his last major tournament but struggled in an injury-plagued group stage.
The 36-year-old played in his team’s victories against Canada and Chile, but was forced to sit out the game against Peru due to a groin problem.
For the first time in a Copa América, Messi failed to score in the group stage, although he managed an assist as Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the opening game.
But Messi has returned to training and the World champions remain favorites to go all the way.
Against Ecuador, who they defeated 1-0 in a friendly in June, Lionel Scaloni’s team should win.
The big question remains: will Messi finally find his form?
Can Brazil cope without Vinicius Jr?
It’s been a frustrating tournament for Brazil – and Vinicius Jr’s quarter-final suspension won’t help them.
The five-time World Cup winner drew with Colombia in the final group stage match and Vinicius was ruled out of the first knockout match after receiving a second yellow card.
Vinicius is Brazil’s top scorer in the Copa América, with two goals, while Real team-mate Rodrygo has struggled in front of goal.
This Brazilian team is strong and could have players to cope with the loss of Vinicius, but they need to be used. Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli was trapped on the bench.
Brazil needs to be up to the task or risk losing to a Uruguayan team that is at full steam.
Canada showing strength
This is Canada’s debut in the Copa América, in the first regular phase in which teams from outside South America participate in the tournament.
Six of the 16 teams are from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Football Associations (Concacaf).
Managed by another former Leeds coach, Jesse Marsch, Canada – who will host the 2026 World Cup alongside the USA and Mexico – did something their US neighbors did not in reaching the knockout stages.
Lille striker Jonathan David is one of the main threats, although Canada struggled for goals in the group stage. David scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Peru, while they lost 2-0 to Argentina and drew 0-0 with Chile.
Another surprise on the cards for Panama?
Panama was the surprise of the Copa América and exceeded expectations in the group stage.
They beat the USA and Bolivia to finish second in the group and set up a tough quarter-final against Colombia.
Taking a step forward may be too much to ask of the oppressed. Colombia, who topped the group and drew with Brazil, have in their team Luis Diaz, from Liverpool, and James Rodriguez, a former Real midfielder.
Crystal Palace’s Jefferson Lerma also played a key role in midfield. They are a talented team and outperform Panama on paper.
Colombia are expected to win, but a Panamanian team that proved its doubters wrong will not make reaching the semi-finals an easy task.
