Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Melanie Leupolz from Chelsea Women.
The 30-year-old midfielder secures a move to the Spanish capital, which puts an end to a trophy-laden spell with the Women’s Super League champions.
Having joined Chelsea from Bayern Munich in 2020, Leupolz won four WSL titles and three Women’s FA Cups, as well as a League Cup trophy under former manager Emma Hayes.
The German star also enjoyed great success with his country, winning the 2013 European Championships and the 2016 Olympics before retiring from international duty.
Leupolz’s departure to League F sees her switch leagues with Barcelona duo Lucy Bronze and Júlia Bartel, who are set to move to Stamford Bridge imminently.
Real Madrid are looking to disrupt the monopoly that their great rivals have on women’s football in Spain, and Leupolz should be a key player in Albert Toril’s team.
