PAUL MULLIN will miss Wrexham’s pre-season tour of the United States and Canada after undergoing spinal surgery.

The goal-mad striker went under the knife to fix a persistent lower back and hamstring problem.

This means Mullin will not take part in Wrexham’s North American summer tour.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney set up glamor ties against Bournemouth, Vancouver Whitecaps and Chelsea.

But those across the Atlantic hoping to see Mullin in action will be disappointed.

And the 29-year-old will also miss the start of Wrexham’s new League One campaign following last season’s promotion.

Wrexham confirmed: “The club’s three-time consecutive top scorer and player of the season has managed the injury with conservative treatment after three years of concern.

“However, during off-season training it became apparent that this approach could not continue and after several consultations it was determined that surgery would be the best path forward.

“Mullin underwent surgery in London in mid-June to ensure he is fit for the majority of the 2024-25 campaign as we look forward to our first season back in Sky Bet League One.

“There is still no timetable for the return of Mullin, who will undergo rehabilitation with the club’s medical department to ensure he can return to full fitness.”

Mullin will certainly be cursing his luck after also missing the start of the previous season in League Two.

After traveling to America for the tour of Wrexham, he was left with a punctured lung and four fractured ribs following a collision with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.

Mullin is now entering his fourth season at Wrexham, having joined them in the National League from Cambridge.

Since then, he has scored 105 goals in 140 appearances under manager Phil Parkinson.

And Mullin still dreams of a Wales call-up, having been put on hold by former manager Rob Page last year.

Wrexham’s new League One campaign begins on August 10 with a home clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

They next visit Sheffield United in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

And Wrexham complete August with tough games against Bolton, Reading and Peterborough.
