Jude Bellingham escapes with fine after controversial celebration

England midfielder Jude Bellingham will not be suspended for Saturday’s EURO 2024 quarter-final game against Switzerland, but he has been punished for a controversial gesture he made after scoring against Slovakia in the final round.

Bellingham scored a stunning equalizer in the 95th minute to take the tie into extra time, and was seen grabbing his crotch towards the Slovakia bench after celebrating the goal.

The matter was investigated by UEFA and there were suggestions that the Real Madrid player could be suspended, but instead he will have to pay a €30,000 fine and was banned for one game for “breaching the basic rules of decent conduct”.

The 21-year-old will therefore be free to face Switzerland, but he will have to be on his best behavior.
