Former England star Walcott appeared on our screens at half-time to give his thoughts on an uneventful first 45 minutes.

And he joked that he deliberately dressed like Southgate as a show of support for the under-pressure manager.

After making a careful analysis of the match, he said: “Look, for me, I’m very positive for today.

“Look, I think I have Gareth Southgate’s shirt on too.

“So I’m very interested in that.”

England fans were quick to comment on Walcott’s punditry and Southgate-style attire.

One wrote on X: “I loved this guy so much; I wish he would do more in his career.”

Another said: “Long time no see, big 14.”

And another said: “Did Theowalcott copy Gareth Southgate’s outfit?”

One commented: “Absolutely furious that Theo Walcott is wearing the same top as Southgate.”

Another added: “It’s good to hear ex-footballers like @theowalcott not talking in clichés but tactics and how the team will work.

“He just needs to fix his wardrobe and man bun.”

England looked to be exiting the tournament when Breel Embolo scored in the 75th minute.

But just when it seemed like all hope was disappearing, Bukayo Saka produced magic in the form of a stunning finish from outside the box to take the match into extra time.

They were unable to get past Jan Sommer and ended up being drawn into yet another dreaded penalty shootout.

And Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford proved to be the hero, saving Manuel Akanji’s penalty after Cole Palmer’s goal.

And substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold sent the Three Lions into the semi-finals with a thunderous late penalty.
