Canada and Argentina reach the 2024 Copa América semi-final with different but positive vibes, and a place in the final just 90 minutes (or more) away from their group mates.
Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the opening of the tournament and did not allow a goal in the group stage with 1-0 and 2-0 wins over Chile and Peru respectively, but will not be satisfied that a late concession against Ecuador meant they needed advance to the semi-finals via penalties.

Meanwhile, Canada is playing with the house’s cash under new boss Jesse Marsch. The American has only been in charge for half a dozen games and the Canucks are in their first Copa América, but look at the results.
The defeat to Argentina was followed by a 1-0 victory over 10-man Peru and a 0-0 goalless draw with Chile. Venezuela’s impressive unbeaten run in the group stage gave Canada the quarter-finals with Vinotinto instead of Ecuador, who Marsch’s men drew 1-1 and won on penalties.

Focus on Argentina, team news
Lionel Messi was excellent against Canada to start the tournament and then against Chile before missing the Peru match through injury. Ecuador didn’t play their best game and missed the penalty, but we will certainly see better in this meeting with Canada. Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez pack a punch going forward as the Argentine team looks to reach the World Cup-World Cup sandwich with two more wins.
Focus on Canada, team news
Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies combined for just one goal – Jacob Shaffelburg has the other, but the Canucks’ success was fueled by resolute team play (and, yes, two opposing red cards).
