JADON SANCHO is set to return to Manchester United this week with his future at Old Trafford still up in the air.
United’s Carrington academy team do not know whether the winger will return to the main squad of players expected to return for pre-season training.
They usually get a breakdown – especially in the opening week – detailing things like return dates, who will be on the field and when, and testing schedules.
However, there is no indication as to what Sancho’s moves will be, or any sign that the United striker and Erik ten Hag have made amends following last season’s defeat.
He was banned from the starting line-up for claiming on social media that he was a scapegoat after the manager dropped him for a game at Arsenal because of his performance in training.
Sancho refused to apologize – sources insist he did not want it to be seen as an admission of guilt – and spent the second half of the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Although his former club would have liked to make this a permanent deal, they were unable to re-sign a man who cost £73m three years ago.
United would be happy to take his £300,000-a-week salary off the books, but there has been no serious interest.
Manager Ten Hag has hinted that the door is open to reigniting his career at Old Trafford, but with no sign of an olive branch yet, Sancho’s future remains in limbo.
Relations became so frosty before his brief return to Dortmund in January that at one point he was spotted eating lunch in the training center car park.
