ENGLAND is one of four teams still fighting for a place in the Euro 2024 final.
The Three Lions face the Netherlands in a semi-final, while France face Spain on the other side.
The two winning teams will then meet to compete for the Henri Delaunay Cup – the Euro 2024 trophy – on Sunday 14 July.
But what happens to the losers?
Is there a third place play-off at Euro 2024?
The World Cup has a play-off for third place, usually played before the final.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Croatia beat Morocco and took third place.
And Gareth Southgate’s England have also played a game for third place in recent times, losing 2-0 to Belgium in the 2018 World Cup.
However, despite what your memory tells you, there are NO play-offs for third place in the European Championships.
This is not a new development – there has been no third-place match at the Euros since 1980.
That game was a 9-8 penalty shootout victory for Czechoslovakia, after drawing 1-1 with hosts Italy.
Since then, 10 euros have passed without a play-off for third place.
