Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton for a fee of 22.5 million euros.

The centre-back has signed a four-year contract at the Westfalenstadion and becomes the second defensive star to leave Sebastian Hoeneß’s side following Hikori Itō’s move to Bayern Munich.

Anton, who was part of Germany’s EURO 2024 squad, signed for Stuttgart in 2020 after promotion from Hannover and has played 129 games for the club, scoring four goals.

He leaves after helping Die Roten to second place in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Champions League for the first time since winning the championship in 2007.

Anton will have big shoes to fill at Dortmund, having been signed to replace club legend Mats Hummels.
