First-team coach Shaun Derry says Wolves’ training camp in Marbella “is an opportunity to bring the team together and build relationships” ahead of the start of another busy Premier League campaign.

It is also manager Gary O’Neil’s first full pre-season at the club after taking charge just days before the start of last season.

“It’s about the time we spend on the training ground,” Derry told club website. “That’s getting your fitness levels back up and making sure you understand that you can’t go into pre-season too quickly.

“From a football point of view, they will build relationships on the pitch, but it’s very important to build them off the pitch as well. It will be interesting from a coaching point of view, just to see where they sit at the tables and the relationships they build off the pitch. field.”

Not all team members traveled to Marbella due to international commitments, which Derry says was in itself “quite complex” to navigate.

“To organize a pre-season, you have to take into account how the last six weeks have been,” Derry added. “The Euros and Copa América are still going on and the boys played international matches during the summer.

“It’s a staggered approach to get back into pre-season and when the latter stages come to a head, around the American tour, you’ll have all your players back and be able to move forward at the start of the season.”
