The Blaugrana opened the scoring in the 12th minute to extend their lead, but it all went downhill after that when they lost Ronald Araujo to a controversial red card after he brought down Bradley Barcola.

PSG secured passage to the semi-finals with a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from former Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha, as well as two goals from Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.

Xavi’s night was made even worse after he was also sent off for angrily kicking the Champions League padding around the VAR monitor near his bench.

As he walked away from the touchline, the former midfield maestro could be seen taking off his coat and chatting briefly with assistant Oscar Hernandez.

The Spaniard was furious and confronted referee Istvan Kovacs at full time, calling him “a disaster before giving him both barrels during the post-match interview.

Xavi said: “It’s a shame, our Champions League ended because of a referee’s error.

“I just told the referee he was a disaster. It’s reality”.

This officially marks Xavi’s last Champions League match as Barcelona coach.
