MARSEILLE have identified Brighton ace Simon Adingra as their top transfer target as a deal for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood is taking too long.
L’OM are said to be close to signing Greenwood, 22, during the summer transfer window for an initial fee of £27m.
But SunSport understands the controversial United player is taking too long to decide and so the French giants have their eyes elsewhere.
Marseille are now keeping an eye on 22-year-old Adingra, who played under the club’s new manager Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton last season.
De Zerbi rates the winger highly and is looking forward to a reunion at the Velodrome this summer.
SunSport understands that Marseille have also held talks with the Ivory Coast international’s team.
Adingra joined Brighton in 2022 from Nordsjaelland and was immediately loaned to Union Saint-Gilloise.
The Ivorian was given the opportunity last season and scored a total of seven goals and three assists in 40 appearances for the Seagulls.
Greenwood, on the other hand, is set to leave United after a loan spell at Getafe last season.
The former England international was told he would be sold following a meeting with the club’s football management team.
Marseille seemed very interested in signing him and the player also seemed open to a move.
A deal appeared done, despite fans of the Ligue 1 side starting a campaign called #GreenwoodNotWelcome, begging club bosses to abandon their pursuit or risk causing “irreversible damage”.
The city’s mayor, Benoit Payan, was also outraged by the news, telling RMC: “I don’t want my club to be covered in shame. It’s not acceptable.”
Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 before being charged nine months later with attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
The winger denied the allegations, and all criminal charges were dropped in February 2023.
