AN ENGLAND fan postponed her mother’s funeral to watch Germany’s Euro 2024 final – but says it’s what she would have wanted.
Leicester fan Dave Ross, 73, has been absent since the Three Lions’ first group stage game on Sunday 16 June.
But sadly, just a few days earlier, on Friday, his mother passed away in a nursing home at the age of 89.
And as England continued to progress on their way to the final, Dave had to postpone his mother’s funeral for a week.
But he hopes it will all be worth it on Monday when he leaves Berlin soon to return in time for the funeral the next day.
Dave told SunSport: “Obviously we had to postpone the funeral because we were hoping, praying, for England to get to the final, and they did.
“And I have to wake up very early on Monday morning to get back because my mother’s funeral is on Tuesday.
“I’m sure she would have been pleased to see me here and see England win the Euros.”
Dave was just a boy when he watched England win the 1966 World Cup.
Years later, he began traveling to watch games and has participated in every major tournament since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Dave has witnessed the highs and lows, the moments of magic and all the pain, but he hopes to see England lift the trophy – again.
