Zirkzee, 23, signed a five-year contract to become the first signing of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era at theater of Dreams.

An extract from a club statement read: “Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Joshua Zirkzee has joined the club, subject to registration.

“The Dutch striker signed a contract until June 2029, with the option to extend for another year.

“Zirkzee, Serie A Under-23 Player of the Year in 2023/24, was Bologna FC’s top scorer last season, helping his team qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

“The 23-year-old Dutch international has already won six trophies during his time at Bayern Munich.”

Bayern Munich academy graduate Zirkzee is over the moon to have joined the Premier League giants.

He said: “After discussing with the manager and club officials, I know how exciting the future will be here and I can’t wait to play my part in Manchester United’s success.

“I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, go to another level in my career and win more trophies.

“It is a privilege to join such an iconic club.

“I have to take a short break after being on the national team, but I will come back ready to make an impact immediately.”

Man Utd’s main targets for the transfer window

Zirkzee caught the attention of Erik Ten Hag and his scouts with 12 goals in 37 appearances last season.

His impressive final season in Serie A earned him a place in the Dutch squad for Euro 2024.

He made his debut for the Oranje team in the quarter-final victory over Peru earlier this month.

Zirkzee won his second cap on Wednesday night in the Dutch’s semi-final defeat to England.

United’s new sporting director Dan Ashworth is excited about what Zirzkee brings to the table.

He said: “Securing a striker to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key objective for this summer.

“We are delighted to have been able to sign a player of Joshua’s caliber so early in the transfer window.

“Joshua is an exceptional talent who is ready to make an impact at Manchester United.

“His ability and desire to become a world-class player means he will be a great addition to the squad we are building for the exciting season to come and beyond.

“Having already achieved significant value in his career, we will provide Joshua with the perfect platform to reach the next level under the guidance and support of Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff.

“We look forward to seeing Joshua thrive at Old Trafford in the years to come.”

Red Devils fans will be hoping Zirkzee’s arrival will be the first of a busy transfer window.

Ten Hag made clear his desire to bring in more reinforcements last season, which ended with the club tasting FA Cup final glory against local rivals Manchester City.
