THOMAS TUCHEL wants to be England manager – if Gareth Southgate steps down.
Tuchel was open to succeeding Southgate after the 2022 World Cup, but the FA have finally decided to extend Southgate’s contract.
That contract expires in December this year, with the FA keen for Southgate to be extended again.
But the coach cast doubt on his future when speaking live on TV after losing the Euro final.
Southgate unusually referred to the England team as “them” and refused to comment on their immediate future following the defeat.
He said: “I think England are in a really good position in terms of the experiences they have now.
“Most of this squad will be present not only at the World Cup, but also at the next Euro.
“There is much to look forward to, but this moment is no consolation.”
Tuchel most recently managed Bayern Munich from March 2023 until the end of this season.

He was fired in February, but the execution was stayed until this summer.
He is among the most high-profile managers linked to the role in England to date, having previously won the Champions League, Bundesliga and French league title, among others.
There has been no contact between the FA and Tuchel, but SunSport understands the German remains interested in the job.
Graham Potter is the bookmakers’ current favorite to succeed Southgate should he depart.
Meanwhile, Tuchel is a 33/1 outsider.
The FA are also interested in talks with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe but the Magpies are said to be reluctant to lose their manager.
Mauricio Pochettino is another manager the FA has admired in the past and is now out of a job, having left Chelsea this summer by mutual consent.

Under-21s coach Lee Carsley could follow Southgate’s path in moving from youth groups to the senior team.
Stranger reports have linked Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola to the role, while Frank Lampard has also been suggested as Southgate’s successor.
