Kylian Mbappe said his childhood dream of joining Real Madrid came true when he was introduced to the packed Bernabeu.

The French striker, 25, signed a five-year contract with the club in July after his contract with Paris St-Germain expired.

Its presentation was postponed due to France’s involvement in Euro 2024, where it was eliminated in the semi-finals by Spain.

But, speaking to a crowd of more than 80,000 spectators at the Bernabéu, Mbappe told fans he dreamed of the moment when he could call himself a Real Madrid player.

“I spent endless nights dreaming of one day playing for Real Madrid and today I am a happy guy,” said Mbappé.

“My family is so happy here that I can see my mother crying.

“It’s an incredible day for me, I’ve dreamed of this day since I was a child and this day means a lot to me.”

Mbappe, who wore the club’s new kit and addressed the spectators in Spanish, was introduced to the crowd by club president Florentino Perez.

Speaking to Mbappé before the Frenchman addressed the crowd, Perez said: “The love you felt for Real Madrid, and your identification with this club since childhood, made it possible for you to be here and overcome these obstacles on the way to your dream.”

For Perez, Mbappe’s arrival has been a long time coming and comes three years after Real failed with a £137m bid for the World Cup winner.

PSG accepted World record £259m bid from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in 2023but Mbappé rejected the move as it was clear he wanted to move to the Bernabéu.

Mbappé, to whom the French club offered a contract extension, was left out of PSG’s pre-season, but ended up being reinstated by coach Luis Enrique.

The striker left PSG with 256 goals in 308 matches.
