CHELSEA has launched an investigation into a video uploaded on social media by Enzo Fernandez.

The clip, which the French Football Federation (FFF) claims is racist, shows Fernandez and several of his Argentina teammates singing a derogatory song about the French team.

The clip was streamed live on Fernendez’s Instagram and quickly garnered a lot of attention online.

Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s Chelsea teammate, took advantage of X to criticize the clip, posting: “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism”.

While the FFF released a statement saying it will file a legal complaint over the comments made by the Argentine players in the video.

It said: “The president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, condemns in the strongest terms the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks that were made against the players of the French national team in the context of a song sung by players and fans of the Argentine national team. team after the Copa América victory and broadcast on video on social media.

“Faced with the seriousness of these shocking statements, contrary to the values ​​of sport and human rights, the president of the FFF decided to directly challenge his Argentine counterpart and FIFA, and file a legal complaint for insulting comments of a racist and discriminatory nature.”

Chelsea themselves have not yet released a statement.

The video was filmed after Argentina’s 1-0 Copa América victory over Colombia.

The vile chant sung by Argentine players dates back to the 2022 World Cup, when Argentina defeated France in the final on penalties.

Appearing live on TV, some fans from the South American country sang that France’s players were “all from Angola”.

In the video, Fernández and some of his companions could be heard singing the part about Angola.

Fofana, who turned to X to condemn the video, is a French international with an Ivorian father.

Chelsea have a host of French stars including Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Lesley Ugochukwu.

Several players from the West London club have reportedly stopped following Fernandez on Instagram.

The Argentine national team contains several Premier League players.

These players include Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez and Alejando Garnacho, Man City’s Julian Alvarez, Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Tottenham’s Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

It is unclear whether any of them were involved in the singing.
