A FORMER Manchester United player went from free agent to a new club in a matter of moments.
James Chester – who came through the United academy – has woken up temporarily without a team after leaving League Two Barrow.
The announcement was made at 12:45 pm, but just 15 minutes later there was already a new club.
His unemployment did not last long as Salford confirmed his move.
They posted: “Salford City announce the signing of former Wales defender James Chester on a one-year deal!”
Chester made his United debut in 2009 when he replaced Gary Neville on the bench against Derby in the League Cup.
He spent four years in the Old Trafford first team before leaving in 2011 to join Hull.
Chester had other spells at West Brom, Aston Villa, Stoke and Derby before dropping down to League Two.
He now joins the Salford club, owned by United legends Neville, brother Phil, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes
As an international, the centre-back made 35 appearances for Wales, including the Euro 2016 semi-final defeat to eventual winners Portugal.

Chester told his newest club: “I look back at the games I played and I think if you had told me before I started my career I would never have believed you and I would have ripped your hands off then and there!
“There’s a lot to choose from but I think the Euros overall for Wales was a big highlight, being involved in that was really special.
“But I think that having played and representing the clubs that I have, and having had the career that I have, I feel very happy and proud to continue.
“I still have the desire to play and win, so I hope the fans see that from me.
“I was in Dublin with the team last week and it’s a really good group to be around, and there are a lot of young players here too, so hopefully I can help them and bring them along.
“I think the week as a whole was brilliant, it was a tough week but I think it’s important to have at this stage of the season to prepare for the first day.
“I still have the desire to continue and go further, and all Salford fans will see that.”
