Ballon d’OneFootball 2024: How we vote

This year, for the first time, voting for the Ballon d’OneFootball was a collaborative effort by the entire OneFootball editorial team.

In previous years, when the award was won by names like Erling Haaland (2023), Mohamed Salah (2022) and Robert Lewandowski (2021), voting was carried out exclusively by our English-speaking editorial team.

But for the first time in 2024, votes were cast by a panel of judges made up of a representative from each of our six main language newsrooms (English, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Brazilian Portuguese), as well as representatives from our video and social media teams.

When voting, each panel member was asked to take into account the form of the 2023/24 club season, as well as performances at EURO 2024 and the Copa América, before independently presenting their top 20 players list of world football. right now.

Players received points based on their position on each list. The first place player got 20 points, the second 19, the third 18 and so on.

We then multiply the total number of points for a given player by the number of people who voted for him.

This was so that someone couldn’t sneak in just because one or two of our judges rated them highly while the rest didn’t think they were that good.

Then we added up the points and were in the top 10 in the ranking, just like that.

Here’s our top 10 list so far. The winner will be announced on July 27, 2024.
