Rangers have received “a concrete offer” for defender and vice-captain Connor Goldson, manager Philippe Clement said.

Clement did not identify the candidate club, but confirmed that the 31-year-old had left the squad ahead of Wednesday’s friendly at Birmingham City to speak to his potential suitors.

Goldson, who won three trophies with Rangers, is under contract at Ibrox until 2026 and has been linked with Birmingham and, more recently, Cypriot side Aris Limassol. He was signed by former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard in 2018.

“Connor was planned to start today,” the Belgian manager told RangersTV.

“There is a concrete offer for him, so I allowed him to come speak to this team.”

Captain James Tavernier started for St Andrew’s after missing Saturday’s friendly defeat to Manchester United at Murrayfield.

Tavernier, 32, has also been linked with a move after nine seasons at Rangers.

Clement said he planned to give the right-back around the 45th minute in Birmingham.

Rangers complete their pre-season program away from home against Union Berlin on Saturday and then visit Hearts in their Scottish Premiership opener on 3 August.
