After losing the last two games against the MLS All-Stars, Liga MX finally emerged victorious.
The Liga MX All-Stars scored a dominant 4-1 victory over the MLS All-Stars in their match at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday night. The victory came after the MLS All-Stars eliminated the Mexico group on penalties in 2021 and with a 2-1 victory in the 2022 edition of the game. Last year’s edition was played against Arsenal.
Although just an exhibition, the match was a preview of sorts for the upcoming Leagues Cup – which will pit MLS clubs against Liga MX teams starting Friday. Inter Miami, thanks to the signing of Lionel Messi, won the cup in 2023 after beating Nashville in the championship game.
Liga MX beats MLS in All-Star Game
The Mexican team didn’t waste much time on Wednesday night. Liga MX got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute thanks to Germán Berterame, who scored with a perfect header into the corner of the goal.
About a minute later, MLS responded with a perfect goal from Cucho Hernández to tie the match.
That was all from the MLS team. Liga MX scored again just before half-time, with Oussama Idrissi’s goal from outside the box taking a 2-1 lead into the dressing room.
Liga MX opened the match in the second half after consecutive goals from Juan Burnetta and Maximiliano Meza, about a minute apart. Just like that, Liga MX won 4-1.
MLS has been beaten 9-1 in the last two All-Star Games, following last year’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal.
Leagues Cup games will start on Friday and group games will run until August 6. The final match is scheduled for August 25th.
