West Ham and Juventus are also linked with a move for Todibo this summer, following previous interest from Manchester United.

Todibo made 33 appearances for Nice last season and was capped twice by France.

However, Howe was not interested in signing, according to talkSPORT.

As a result, Newcastle are unlikely to pursue a deal for the 24-year-old.

Face-to-face talks were reportedly held with Todibo last week, led by new sporting director Paul Mitchell.

The former Monaco director arrived at St. James’ Park earlier this summer, replacing Dan Ashworth following his move to United.

Howe already had an agreement with former director Amanda Staveley giving her the final say on all transfers.

It is currently unclear whether the deal is still in place following his departure from the club.

Lewis Hall’s loan from Chelsea has been made permanent in a £35m deal.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has signed for Nottingham Forest alongside free transfers John Ruddy and Lloyd Kelly.

Newcastle continue their pre-season preparations against Hull on Saturday ahead of a two-match tour of Japan.

Friendlies at home to Girona and Brest follow, before the new season kicks off against Southampton on August 17.
