A club-owned organization that runs the top two divisions of women’s football in England is set to come into operation from next season.

The body called NewCo will take over management of the WSL and Women’s Championship before the start of the 2024-25 campaign in September.

Its takeover is scheduled to be completed before the resumption of the Women’s Championship on September 7 and 8 and WSL matches beginning two weekends later.

The move will see NewCo take over the reins of the FA, after the authority has been in charge of the WSL and second division since 2010 and 2014.

It will also come ten months after the appointment of former Nike director Nikki Doucet as chief executive of NewCo.

Over the past 14 years, the FA has overseen the development and professionalisation of both divisions.

This includes leading the brokerage of multi-million pound domestic broadcast deals for WSL games to be broadcast on Sky Sports and the BBC.

NewCo’s first board meeting will be held in September and will be followed by an inaugural meeting for its shareholders in October.

There are also plans to establish a supporters advisory group at a date yet to be specified.

Several senior officials were hired to support the operation of NewCo. An interim marketing director is in place and a director of football has been recruited.

From next season, WSL games will be available to watch on YouTube, in addition to Sky Sports and the BBC

And a chief revenue officer is expected to start working for the organization on September 2nd.

NewCo’s acquisition of the top two divisions of women’s gaming will coincide with the broadcast of WSL games on YouTube next season.

Although league games will no longer be broadcast on FA Player, the online platform will continue to host live Women’s FA Cup games.
