Xavi Simons situation
Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United this summer.
However, United would face competition for Simons’ signature as Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, where he played on loan last season, also show strong interest.
PSG are yet to decide on the playmaker’s future, but with the 21-year-old eager for consistent game time, there is a good chance he could leave the Parc de Princes this summer.
It will depend on whether manager Luis Enrique intends to make the Dutch international a starter – but with a vast array of attacking talent at the Spaniard’s disposal, and with more expected to arrive this summer, that is in doubt.
A potential exit would almost certainly be a loan at the start, with an obligation to buy, as it is understood there is a robust sell-on clause for former club PSV Eindhoven, which expires at the end of 2024.
Jarrad Branthwaite Boost
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite refuses to sign a new contract, with his current contract expiring in 2027.
Manchester United made two bids for Branthwaite, the first worth £35m with £10m in add-ons and the second worth £45m plus £5m in add-ons – the Toffees value him at £70m.
The defender agreed personal terms with United and was offered £160,000 a week.
According to the Daily Mail, the England international will not sign new terms at Goodison Park unless the Merseysiders can match the Red Devils’ bid.
Alternative to Manuel Ugarte?
Manchester United could sign Sporting Lisbon ace Morten Hjulmand if they lose Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte.
United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Ugarte, but PSG are playing hardball in transfer negotiations.
According to O Jogo, the Red Devils are also keeping an eye on Hjulmand, if negotiations over the Uruguayan international fail.
Monaco ace Youssouf Fofana has also been touted as a potential alternative to play in defensive midfield next season.
Hjulmand, who replaced Ugarte at Sporting last summer, has a release clause worth £67m.
