PARTICK THISTLE manager Kris Doolan was angered after being prevented from making a substitution against Motherwell on Sunday.
Thistle were held to a goalless draw by Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup, meaning they finished behind the Fir Park men in the group stages and were knocked out of the competition.
Thistle boss Doolan feels his side could have done the job if they had managed to sign the striker – something they were prevented from doing after an unbelievable technical error.
Doolan had hoped to replace 19-year-old striker Ricco Diack but was bizarrely told he could not do so because of an incorrectly cropped screenshot.
The referees informed Doolan that Diack could not take the field as he was not listed on the Partick Thistle team sheet.
Only to discover that the teams were captured from an official team app and Diack’s name was cut off at the bottom of the screen.
Doolan spoke about the unbelievable error in his post-game interview with Premier Sports.
He said: “We have shown that we are capable at this level of performing well, but on the other hand I am a bit irritated.
“The fact that I put in a striker and was told I couldn’t because he wasn’t in the team.
“Only to find out he was actually on the team line and it was a mistake.”

He explained: “Obviously we are bringing in a striker to try and win the game.
“We were then told we couldn’t list him on the team sheet, so we couldn’t put him on.
“We thought it was our mistake, but after the game we discovered that it was on our team’s record.
“Now everything is done online, everything is done through an app and, unfortunately, eight of the nine names [substitutes] they were screenshots and the ninth was cut.
“So the referees didn’t know Ricco was on the team line.”
Adding: “We want to try and win the game, it’s worth a lot of money to the club and it’s a good opportunity for us to move on and get that money.
“Unfortunately, an error on the part of a common system knocked it out of the park for us.”
Doolan also revealed he feels he “has to” speak to the SPFL about the decision, describing it as “really disappointing”.

Fans were also in disbelief at the shocking gaffe and took to social media to react, with some calling for the match to be replayed.
One wrote: “An absolute mess btw. It could have been the difference between passing or not.
While another added: “Surely this game should be replayed??”
A third joked: “A definite downside for Thistle due to incompetence beyond our control, some form of apology should be on the way along with a way to right this wrong.”
