Spain completed a perfect group campaign with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Brazil.

A cautious opening 45 minutes came to life when Seleção captain Marta was sent off for a high foot challenge on Olga Carmona.

La Roja’s lead was rewarded when Athenea del Castillo opened the scoring midway through the second half with a close-range shot.

Alexia Putellas added insult to injury in the 17th minute of stoppage time with a stunning long-range strike.

The Montse Tomé team will find out which of the best-ranked teams in Groups A and B, currently Canada and Australia, will face in the qualifiers.

Japan secures place in knockout stage

Top scorers: Hamano 22′, Tanaka 32′, Kitagawa 45+5′; Echegini 42′

Japan led Brazil to second place in Group C with a 3-1 victory over Nigeria.

Maika Hamano opened the scoring midway through the first half, scoring into an empty net from close range.

This was followed just ten minutes later by a header from Mina Tanaka after the ball hit the post.

Onyi Echegini reduced the Super Falcons’ deficit just before half-time with an excellent strike from outside the box.

But Japan regained their two-goal lead in stoppage time, thanks to a free kick taken by Hikaru Kitagawa.

Nadeshiko are currently set to face Group B leaders USA in the quarter-finals.
