There have been tributes from those who worked with former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare, who has died aged 60.

Shakespeare has also worked for West Brom, Hull, Everton, Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich and was England’s assistant manager in 2016.

Jack Grealish, Manchester City posted a message he received from Shakespeare when he was left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad, along with a tribute: “One of the best people I’ve ever met, not just in football but in life. Last month he was texting me when I didn’t win the Euro squad while he was ill. That’s what kind of man he was!

Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson wrote: “He was, without hesitation, one of the most wonderfully talented, emotionally understanding, calm, level-headed and outrageously funny people I have had the privilege of calling my friend. Safe journey to your next destination, my wonderful friend. You are loved and admired for all of us, and every time we think of you, a smile, a smile, a laugh or a memorable occasion will come to us. We truly are the lucky ones to have known Shakey.”

Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire wrote: “The man who signed me to Leicester, the man who gave me so much confidence, the man from whom I learned so much. I will be forever grateful. Football will miss him, life will miss him. An incredible man.”

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy: “I have no words right now. Just destroyed. RIP Shakey.”

Former Leicester captain Kasper Schmeichel posted: “Devastated beyond words. An absolutely fantastic coach, one of the best I’ve ever seen, but most importantly, an incredible human being. He taught me so much and I’m so grateful to have worked with and gotten to know him.”

Fellow former Foxes captain Andy King tweeted: “Devastated to hear of Shakey’s passing. Not only a brilliant coach, but more importantly an incredible person. Throughout LCFC’s entire journey, none of this could have happened without him. RIP Shakes, thank you for everything.”
