Kilmarnock’s trip to Bruges “will live long in the memory” despite a 1-0 defeat to Cercle Bruges that eliminated them from Europa League qualification.
Calum Scott from the Forever and Ever podcast told the Scottish Football Podcast he was very proud of the players, regardless of the result.
“It’s a tough day, but it’s a day that will be remembered by Kilmarnock’s support and you can see that from the reaction at the end, with the players and Derek McInnes, the manager, and the rest of the coaching staff arriving, really showing their appreciation. to the traveling support which was unbelievable,” said Scott.
“Throughout both ties the Kilmarnock fans have been excellent. Their reaction to scoring a goal and just supporting the team and everything has been a great experience.”
After a decisive 1-1 draw in Ayrshire, Killie fans headed to Belgium full of hope and were defeated by a defensive error that allowed Cercle’s Thibo Somers to score the only goal in a 1-0 victory.
“We’re devastated because I feel like in the first leg we should have come away with a win, and then we probably did enough to draw and unfortunately we lost the game,” Scott added.
“When you look at it that way, the margins are small. But I’m really proud of the players, the management and the fans, because the fans have been an absolute credit to the club.
“I hope it doesn’t take long for us to get back to this stage.”
