Newport County striker Will Evans looks set for a move to newly promoted League One club Mansfield Town.

Newport are in talks with Mansfield over a fee and it is understood the move is close to being finalised.

Newport always expected interest in Evans this summer and triggered an extension to his contract at the end of last season.

Evans scored 21 goals in League Two last season despite the club finishing 18th in the division.

Back in January, manager Graham Coughlan confirmed that there had been approaches for the 27-year-old former Llangedwyn farmer.

Earlier this summer, Newport President Huw Jenkins admitted he had to reduce interest from two League One clubs at Wales forward C.

Now Evans is set to move to Nigel Clough’s Mansfield, who are back in the third tier for the first time since 2003, having finished third in League Two behind Stockport County and Wrexham.

Former Cardiff Met player Evans joined Newport from Cymru Premier League side Bala Town in May 2022.

Evans built on his impressive league record last season by scoring in the 4-2 FA Cup defeat to eventual winners Manchester United, finishing with 25 goals in all competitions.
