WILLIAM GALLAS has revealed he fears Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be “sacked by Christmas”.

Maresca took over as manager at Stamford Bridge this summer after leaving Leicester City.

Blues legend Gallas has reflected on the club’s pre-season US tour, which has been underwhelming for the club.

To date, they have played four matches in the United States, winning just one encounter and recently faced a 4-2 defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Speaking with Genting Casino Gallas said: “Even though it’s pre-season, I’m worried about Chelsea and I’m worried when I look at the squad.

“Despite all the money they spent, the squad is still not good enough to qualify for the Champions League, it has too many players and still needs more quality.

“Could Enzo Maresca be fired before Christmas? Anything can happen in football.”

Chelsea have spent well over £1 billion on transfers since Todd Boehly took charge of the club in May 2022.

And last season, former manager Mauricio Pochettino managed to secure the club a European place, finishing 6th in the Premier League.

But despite the impressive turnaround after a poor start to the season, the Argentine still left through the exit door.

And Gallas hopes Maresca can at least keep up with the Blues until the end of the campaign.

He continued: “I hope to see him stay at least until the end of the season and have the opportunity to show what he can do, but it will always be the same problem.

Chelsea’s top summer transfer targets

“If he doesn’t have the right players and staff to compete in the Premier League, it will be incredibly difficult for him.

“Not just with Chelsea, but with all the owners in the Premier League, they have no more patience.

“Maybe Arsenal did it with Mikel Arteta and Manchester United did it with Erik ten Hag, but most are not thinking about the long term.

“Coaches now come for six months or a year, I hope Chelsea move away from that and stay with Maresca for the long term.”

Maresca is the fifth manager the club has had since Boehly and co arrived in west London.

He added: “His future depends on the manager’s aim and whether he is satisfied with a top four or top six.

“I think they will only change coach if they are 15th at the turn of the year. Otherwise he will stay.”
