WWE and UFC have joined forces for a never-before-seen mega broadcast event.
The news was announced last night and sent wrestling and MMA fans into a panic.
WWE and UFC’s TKO Group Holdings partnership has confirmed that NXT Battleground will emanate from UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 9th.
It will be the first WWE event to be held at the 130,000-square-foot state-of-the-art production and events complex.
The Apex was built to host live events as well as studio shows and can accommodate around 1,000 fans.
It is home to UFC Fight Night events, as well as Dana WhiteCompetitor Series.
WWE Senior Vice President of Creative Talent Development Shawn Michaels said, “We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and are excited to bring Battleground to this world-class event and production facility in partnership with the UFC.”
Fans also reacted enthusiastically to the announcement, with one even calling for them to make it the “next WrestleMania” – despite the limited capacity.
Another said: “It will look different in Apex. Interested to see what a WWE show there will be like.
“This is amazing,” said another. “I can’t wait to watch the show! This collaboration is one of the best business decisions!”
A fourth wrote: “The first of many events held in collaboration with the UFC to come, I’m sure.”
A fifth said: “That’s wild!”
While a sixth added: “This will be very interesting to watch.”
WWE Legend Triple HWWE’s current chief content officer and chief creative officer also turned to X following the news.
He wrote: “The state-of-the-art UFC Apex has been home to so many incredible events… and for the first time, on June 9th, @WWE becomes part of it.
“Many thanks to @ufc and @danawhite for their partnership in bringing #NXTBattleground to Vegas.”
TKO Group Holdings was created by Endeavor as part of a merger between WWE and UFC parent company Zuffa.
After merging last September, both now operate as divisions under the TKO banner.
Old WWE boss Vince McMahon sold over $700 million worth of TKO shares with Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel taking on this role at the new company.
Mark Shapiro is the president and chief operating officer, while Nick Khan became president of WWE following the merger with White serving as CEO of the UFC.
UFC Apex officially opened on June 18, 2019, but gained prominence the following year.
The Nevada venue has become the home of the UFC during the Covid pandemic, as all UFC events in the US have been held there behind closed doors.
Apex still continues to host select Fight Night events in front of a limited audience.
