WWE is making a big change to the SummerSlam schedule following the success of WrestleMania.
After this year’s WrestleMania event set viewership records for WWE, the company is looking to mirror that success at the SummerSlam event.
WWE announced on Thursday that SummerSlam will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2026.
The big news, though, is that it will become a two-night event similar to WrestleMania.
“US Bank Stadium is an absolutely world-class venue situated in a city with a rich wrestling history and an incredible fan base,” said Chris Legentil, WWE Executive Vice President, Talent Relations and Head of Communications.
“We are excited to bring two nights of SummerSlam to Minneapolis in 2026.”
WWE is seeing a huge spike in interest lately, with the 2023 SummerSlam in Detroit setting the record for any non-WrestleMania event.
This record was broken in January of this year by the 2024 Royal Rumble.
“We are thrilled to welcome the WWE Universe to Minnesota for SummerSlam,” said Wendy Blackshaw, president and CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events.
“We will make this summer wrestling extravaganza accessible for fans of all ages.
“Through a variety of festivities and ancillary events in the Twin Cities and affordable tickets to the main events at US Bank Stadium, this will be a SummerSlam for everyone.”
WrestleMania 40 not only broke WWE’s attendance records, it completely shattered them.
More than 145,000 fans packed Lincoln Financial Field over two days to watch Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns fight in the ring.
That number is up 78 percent from the 2023 WrestleMania event.
WWE also reported that Peacock viewership increased 41 percent over WrestleMania 39.
Wrestling fans were thrilled to see SummerSlam getting an extra day and shared their excitement on social media.
“TWO NIGHTS SUMMERSLAMMMM,” said one fan.
