AMAZON is working to reboot the classic show American Gladiators.

The show originally aired from 1989 to 1996 and was rebooted in 2008.

The American Gladiators pitted amateur athletes against the show’s “Gladiators” in tests of strength and agility.

Most episodes featured two men and two women in a group of ten men and ten women.

The season was a tournament format in which contestants competed across 12 episodes to crown a single man and woman as champions.

As the seasons progressed, up to 48 contestants were selected for the competition.

After the show ended in 1996, it was restarted for another run in 2008.

This version of the show was hosted by WWE superstar Hulk Hogan on NBC.

However, it only lasted two seasons and ended up being interrupted once again.

Since the show’s second installment in 2008, there have been rumors of a possible third reboot.

First, a 2014 post-apocalyptic-themed version of the show was hosted by executive producer Arthur Smith, which never took off.

In 2018, MGM and Ferraro released a reboot including Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg that failed to gain traction.

More recently, in 2021, WWE partnered with MGM to launch a revival that once again failed to take off.

The only content surrounding American Gladiators in recent years has been documentaries.

ESPN released a 30 for 30 documentary about the classic show last year and a Netflix documentary about the show was dropped shortly after.

With so many failed reboot attempts, it looks like American Gladiators may never return.

Current WWE Champions

WWE Tag Team Championship: A city below

However, Amazon’s efforts appear to be the closest since the show aired in 2008.

There aren’t many details about the reboot attempt, but there is already a casting site available for the show.

This latest reboot attempt is likely a “believe it when I see it” situation where fans won’t get their hopes up until something official comes out.

For now, the original shows can be watched on the American Gladiators YouTube channel and The Roku Channel.
