Pat McAfee fights back tears live on ESPN as he misses Monday Night RAW commentary following father-in-law’s death

PAT McAfee became emotional on live television after revealing the unexpected death of his father-in-law on Monday.

The 36-year-old ESPN star shared that he lost his usual commentary duties on WWE’s Monday Night Raw due to the passing of his wife’s father.

Pat McAfee was absent from Raw, which takes place in his hometown of Indianapolis.

On Tuesday, McAfee explained on his self-titled ESPN show that he did not appear at the wrestling event due to the death of his wife, Samantha’s father, Bob.

“Yesterday was a day that will obviously be remembered forever in our family because my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly after the show ended yesterday in a hospital here in Indianapolis, In.”, said McAfee.

“He was in hospital fighting an infection and on Friday we were told he was likely to be discharged.

“By Sunday he had figured everything out and was going to be fine, so we were all with high hopes and incredible optimism and then yesterday, literally as the show was ending, my wife called me and said I had to go to the hospital. because there was an emergency.”

McAfee continued to share what happened on Monday while holding back tears.

“I went over there, and what my wife, and her mother, and her aunt, and everyone in her family saw happen was her father being a badass, and trying to kick ass, and inevitably losing the fight on this particular day,” , said McAfee.

“Whenever something surprises an entire family like this, it can obviously be extremely devastating.

“So last night was obviously a very difficult night for our family. It was a Cool reminder – thankfully, my wife and her mother, the last things they said to her father, Bob, who was a great man, was ‘I love you’ – and I think this was a good perspective and a good time to tell your people you love them.

“You literally have no idea what’s going to happen. It could literally be the last time you see someone every time you see them.”

McAfee ended the segment with a personal message of thanks to his fans.

“A lot of people tell us that our program helps them escape things, get away from things,” McAfee continued.

“That’s what it means to me today and I can’t thank everyone enough.

“AND [to] my wife and her mother, I love you.”

McAfee has been married to Samantha since 2020.

It was speculated that McAfee did not appear during the WWE event due to a storyline, as he had recently teased interactions with a new horror faction, the Wyatt Wick6.

His absence from Raw came on the night the company and the city of Indianapolis announced a long-term agreement to bring the 2025 Royal Rumble as well as SummerSlam and WrestleMania to Lucas. Oil Stadium.
