John Cena made a surprise appearance at the WWE promotion’s “Money in the Bank” event in Toronto.

He said of his retirement: “Tonight I officially announce my retirement from WWE.

“I’ve been doing this for a while now, I’ve been with WWE for over two decades.

“And in that period I saw incredible waves of prosperity like the ones we have now.

“It’s when no one knows your name, no one wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated and hardcore fans stick by your side.

“In all these years, one of the most important and impressive things I learned was whether WWE was hot or cold, the Canadians always showed up.”

“WWE is the hottest ticket in town, without a doubt. And I also saw tremendous difficulties.

“The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last.

“The 2025 elimination chamber will be my last.

“And I’m here tonight to announce that in Las Vegas, Wrestlemania 2025 will be the last Wrestlemania I compete in.

“I want to say thank you.

“People say they are leaving and two years later they come back.

“I want to clear things up now, I’m done.

“If you want to be a part of this one last time, we will do as much as we can and fight with everyone and hope you come and enjoy the fun.”

After his speech, fans began chanting “thank you Cena”, to which he responded with “What an incredible gesture of kindness”.
