EXTREME Championship Wrestling original Sabu has revealed that former professional wrestling supremo Vince McMahon thought he was too much during his short stint in WWE.

The self-described “Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac” made a name for himself in the ’90s during his time in ECW and New Japan Pro Wrestling thanks to his extreme acrobatics and hardcore style.

The now 59-year-old signed with WWE in 2006 following a one-off appearance at ECW One Night Stand the previous year, which led to the resurrection of the legendary promotion following record pay-per-view buys.

However, he was never able to achieve success under then-Chairman McMahon, despite being booked in a dream match against then-World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio.

The two highfliers met at ECW One Night Stand 2006 in an unforgettable match, which ended abruptly as a No Contest.

McMahon refused to schedule a rematch as he considered the former TNA star unsafe and did not want to risk his world champion.

Sabu said Wrestling News“It was supposed to be a No Contest somehow.

“Double count, double knockout, both cannot continue. The position was my idea.

“They planned this and then Vince said behind my back that I was too dangerous and that he didn’t want me to fight Mysterio.”

However, McMahon then booked Sabu against WWE’s biggest star, John Cena, who he fought at Vengeance.

Cena defeated the ECW original, but suffered a black eye during the encounter.

This angered both the 16-time world champion and McMahon as it affected the former’s ability to carry out his promotional duties and had to postpone filming a change for a month.

“I gave him a black eye and he was upset about it. I gave him a black eye by accident. He got a black eye, I must say,” Sabu said.

“Cena was upset because he couldn’t make his movie for a month.”

Sabu dropped his card shortly after his loss to Cena and received some underwhelming yellow cards.

However, the legendary fighter insists he holds no grudge against the Leader of the Cenation and praised him as one of the best he has ever shared the ring with.

“Yes, he can dance. He has my vote. He deserves his spot,” Sabu added.

“Anyone who’s jealous of him. Anyone who talks badly about him is probably jealous. I don’t blame them for being jealous.”
