A portal linking New York City to Dublin via livestream has been temporarily closed after inappropriate behavior, according to Dublin City Council.

Any less than a week After the 24/7 visual arts facility was implemented, authorities chose to close it temporarily after people started winking at each other, working on the portal, and one person even shared photos of the attack on the twin towers for people in New York City. Alternatively, the portal was also a place for reunions with old friends and even proposals, with many documenting their experience with the installation online.

Dublin City Council said that although those involved in the inappropriate behavior were few and far between, videos of such behavior had gone viral online.

“While we cannot control all of these actions, we are implementing some technical solutions to address this and they will go live within the next 24 hours,” the council said in a statement on Monday. “We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days with our partners in New York to ensure the portals continue to provide a positive experience for cities and the world.”

New York City’s gateway is near the Flatiron Building, while Dublin’s is in the center of North Earl Street and O’Connell Street.

What is the portal?

The portal was launched on May 8th as a way of bringing people together through technology.

“Portals are an invitation to meet people across borders and differences and to experience our world as it really is – united and one,” said Benediktas Gylys, the Lithuanian artist and founder of The Portal. “Live streaming offers a window between distant locations, allowing people to meet outside their social circles and cultures, transcend geographic boundaries and embrace the beauty of global interconnectedness.”

The Dublin portal is set to connect with other cities and destinations in Poland, Brazil and Lithuania, Dublin City Council said in a statement. May 8 press release. The connection with New York City is expected to continue throughout the fall, with additional cultural performances starting in mid-May.
