Xuxa asked an artificial intelligence if it was wrong for her to wish she had been born black and was corrected by her during the Yes to Racial Equality Award, shown on Sunday (26), on TV Globo.

“What do you think, Deb? Can I, as a white person, say that I wish I had been born black? Take it easy, Deb”, asked the presenter after remembering that she had already expressed this desire many times in different interviews.

Deb, the artificial intelligence with whom Xuxa was talking, responded that she thought it was nice for her to say that she would like to have been born with black skin, but she confronted the gaúcha woman and brought to the discussion other issues that affect black women in Brazil.

“Aesthetics is just one of the thousand inherent characteristics of black or brown women. Xuxa, it’s not that you can’t, but maybe you shouldn’t say this without taking into account the entire context of a black female experience”, stated Deb.

“There are a series of oppressions, obstacles and discriminatory situations that a black woman can go through that make her existence much more difficult. Talking about her only sees a beautiful surface”, she concluded.

Deb is an artificial intelligence developed by the Instituto Identidades do Brasil to promote accessible and educational dialogues on ethnic-racial and social issues in the country. With a dedicated curatorial team behind her work, Deb was prepared to offer immediate answers on different subjects and will discuss the racial issue in Brazil.

“We want Deb to be more than just an AI. We want it to be a tool for change, a safe space for education and dialogue that promotes a more inclusive culture”, explains Luana Génot, founder and CEO of the institute.

She believes that Deb alone will not end racism, but argues that AI can be a useful tool in the process of raising awareness among the population.

“We believe that dialogue is fundamental to promoting a more fair and equal society”, concludes Génot.
